PG&E Corporation

About

PG&E, a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation, is a combined natural gas and electric utility serving more than 16 million people across 70,000 square miles in Northern and Central California.

Today, approximately one in every five electric vehicles (EVs) in the country are registered in PG&E’s service area. Expanding access to EVs and charging stations is essential to reducing emissions, improving air quality and meeting California state clean energy goals.

For years, PG&E has been actively engaged in projects to expand EV charging infrastructure and simplify EV ownership. This includes supporting the large-scale electric infrastructure needed to incorporate EV charging systems into the electric grid, as well as EV adoption through special rates, rebates and tools, and customer outreach to increase education about the benefits of EVs.

These efforts all work toward California’s goal of 5 million EVs throughout the state by 2030 as well as Gov. Gavin Newsom’s executive order prohibiting the sale of new gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles after 2035. PG&E has also been a leader at the national and state levels advocating for public policies to help advance these goals.

PG&E supports customers for their EV-related projects along with specifically designed programs helping customers transition to electric across light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. Examples of these programs include:
• Through the EV Charge Network program, PG&E aims to install approximately 4,500 Level 2 charging ports throughout its service area at multi-unit dwellings and workplaces.
• PG&E’s EV Fleet program aims to install or rebate make-ready infrastructure at 700 sites by 2024 to support the adoption of 6,500 medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles.
• PG&E’s EV Fast Charge enables public fast charging, complementing state and privately funded initiatives, and aims to install more than 50 plazas for DC fast charging in corridor and urban sites.

PG&E also supports EV adoption by offering electric rate plans tailored for customers who drive EVs and by developing materials, educational tools (like PG&E’s EV Savings Calculator and Fleet Calculator – ev.pge.com and fleets.pge.com), and supporting EV-focused events to help customers understand the benefits of EVs.

PG&E is committed to continuing its efforts to increase EV adoption and will remain an essential partner in California’s transition toward a clean transportation future.
